TEHRAN -- Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez condoled President Mohammad Khatami and Iranian nation on Wednesday on the recent devastating quake in Iran, IRNA reported.

Chavez voiced sympathy with quake survivors and said his country was ready to extend any assistance to Iran in that connection.

Khatami thanked Chavez for his phone contact and said his sympathy would relieve the sufferings of the quake survivors.

They also discussed regional and international issues including the OPEC at their phone conversation.
